2020/2021 enrolment extended to June 1

Booking online tours and meetings now!

We are extending enrolment registration for Kindergarten and all grades to June 1, 2020.

Even though the school is currently suspended indefinitely, we can still host you and your family through a Zoom meeting or by Skype online Monday-Friday 9-5pm. We are here to answer any questions you may have for next year.

Questions about enrolment starting in September this year… email Admissions now for more details.

We are also offering a Scholarship for new students for the 2020/2021 school year, and Kindergarten students qualify.

During our indefinite school suspension, we are reaching out to the community members of WWS to post their pictures of home study projects and daily activities to whistlerwaldorf.com

In the upcoming weeks we will share them in the weekly school E-news and on our website as positive contributions to our continuing Waldorf education outside of the classrooms.

You can also post thoughtful comments and inspirational messages to your fellow WWS community members including your teachers, the Parent Advisory Committee and the many family members that make up Whistler Waldorf School.

Essential worker child care available at Spring Creek

EYC opens again for Sea to Sky Child care

UPDATE as of April 1: Closed until further notice due to a lack of demand. Contact admissions@whistlerwaldorf.com if you do require care. If we have enough interest, we will re-visit offering care to essential service workers.

In cooperation with Waldorf’s wonderful ECE teachers and assistants, we have decided to re-open the Early Years Centre in Spring Creek to serve the community-wide purpose of providing child care to essential service workers during the COVID-19 crisis.

Here are some details:

  • EYC will re-open Monday 30th March from 7:45am – 5pm
  • We provide service for up to 16 children a day, 30month – school age.
  • Little Cedars at the Spruce Grove School will remain closed for now.
  • You do not need to be currently enrolled in Waldorf to enroll in this community initiative.

If you are an essential worker who absolutely needs child care during this time, please email us as soon as possible.

If you have other options that would allow your children to stay home, we kindly request that you pursue every option first as there is limited spaces.

A chance to meet our school community

Grace Laverdiere- WWS Grade 12 student

Here is Grace’s personal reflection on her Grade 12 service work art project featured in the March 12th E-news: 

“As an artist who loves painting landscapes, the environment is very important to me as it’s where my inspiration comes from. It was an honor to create a series of paintings for the Squamish Environmental Society, representing their theme of connecting art and science. Art will always convey an emotion to the viewer. Science, on the other hand, is presented as fact, with no room for interpretation or emotion.

 

Representing an environmental issue through art brings more awareness on the subject and makes it more personal to the viewer since science is usually presented at a distance. This awareness is what I hoped to convey in my paintings representing the large mammal species of the Howe Sound and Sea to Sky area.I hope that my paintings urge you (as the viewer) to acknowledge and observe the beauty of this area through a new perspective.”

100 Kids Whistler 2nd meeting at the Westin Resort set for March 12 – 

We are very excited to host the second meeting for the 100 Kids (who care) Whistler chapter.

Date: Thursday, March 12

Location: Westin Resort & Spa

Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm

Registration for 100 Kids Whistler is open to all kids ages 5 – 18 in our community. Please note that members under 12 years of age are required to be accompanied by an adult, there are no childcare services provided on site.

Brought to you by the 100 Women of Whistler local non profit group. If you are not familiar with the 100 Who Care Alliance, it is a simple, effective and efficient way to raise funds in your community for organizations that matter to you. Whistler currently has a 100 Women chapter (donating $100.00/member quarterly) and we have decided to take this opportunity to expose our children to this socially conscious movement (donating $10.00/member quarterly). 100 Kids Whistler wants to inspire the next generation by providing a forum to contribute to local charities. We want to share the true spirit and joy of giving, and let our littlest locals see for themselves what a difference their contributions can make. Come by March 12 to learn more!

Father Daughter Dance Tickets on Sale Now – This year’s Father Daughter Dance is Saturday, May 16th, 2020 at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.  The event is a major  fundraiser for the Whistler Children’s Centre.

The Whistler Welcome Centre is doing some research as part of our Parenting in Another Culture program. This year, we are focusing on parents of school age children, specifically high school – grades 8 to 12.  The survey is to help us identify and understand the challenges of parenting in another culture in Whistler so we can provide the services and information to better support immigrant and newcomer parents in our community.

Katherine Fawcett’s Swan Suit Book Launch on April 7 –

This is a free event at the Whistler Public Library. From Katherine: “I hope you’ll join me in Whistler to celebrate the launch of The Swan Suit (Douglas & McIntyre)”. The evening will feature a reading and discussion, plus music from Birdsong Jazz (with vocalist Robyn Forsyth, guitarist M.J. Mullin and bassist Tony Moser). Books will be available for purchase, courtesy of Armchair Books.

The Vidal family of four is looking for long-term accommodation in Whistler starting August 2020, with their 2 girls hoping to attend WWS.

Originally from Spain, they are currently living in Quebec but hope to move to Whistler this summer. Please contact Javier Vidal if you know of any accommodation options that may work for his family.

A chance to meet our school community

Victoria Rodriguez – Grade 9 International Student, Mexico

You come from a huge city – Mexico City. What has been the biggest surprise for you coming to Whistler?I was actually surprised at how easy it was to adapt. Whistler is small and Pemberton, where I am living, even smaller, but the transition has been fine. I don’t miss the city at all!
And what has been the biggest surprise in regard to studying at WWS? I can’t believe how nice everyone has been. Both teachers and students alike have been so kind and welcoming.
What has the highlight been so far? Definitely the winter trip. It was such a unique experience for me to be out in nature like that and learning outdoor ed skills.
In Mexico, you studied in an International Baccalaureate school. What differences have you seen between IB and Waldorf?  There are some similarities and both offer a rigorous education.  I do feel, however, that Waldorf prepares students better for life whereas IB prepares you only for university. We have more varied experiences here and definitely more integration of the arts.
What is on your bucket list of things to see before you head home?
I’d like to spend more time at the lakes once they thaw. I haven’t seen the ice cave on Blackcomb yet, and also hope to catch Vallea Lumina.

COWS Fundraiser for Mental Health on Friday March 6th 2020 –  COWS Whistler will be donating all of our Ice Cream sales, staff tips & any other donations we receive to the Canadian Mental Health Awareness association of BC on this day in memory of a long time friend & manager that worked at our COWS location.

This is the second year we are running this event! Last year our store alone raised $4k and company wide we donated $43, 000 to this amazing cause.

Please come out and buy an ice cream in support of Mental Health.

Imagine 2120 – TELUS Winter Classic Gala Event on March 7 –

Imagine 2120 is part of the 27th annual two-day, the TELUS Winter Classic. The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support to organizations whose activities provide benefit to residents of the Sea to Sky Corridor in the areas of health, human services, education, recreation, arts & culture and the environment with a special emphasis placed on youth and

family programs.
