Board Update – June 2, 2025

The Board shared an important update about the future location of Whistler Waldorf School and the meaningful work underway to secure a permanent home for our students, faculty, and families.

In May 2025 WWS  confirmed from a recent BC Government decision that the long-term home of Whistler Waldorf School will not be at Spruce Grove. Instead, our future lies in a new location – one that fully supports the continued growth and vision of our school.

Anticipating this, the Permanent Site Committee, has been actively exploring long-term site options across Whistler that align with our educational philosophy and provide space and flexibility for both our childcare and K–12 programs to thrive. With the clarity the Provincial decision provides, and an accelerated timeline in place, the committee can continue its work with even greater focus and momentum.

School operations will continue as usual for the 2025–2026 school year.

The Board of Trustees is committed to a timely process that will see Whistler Waldorf School established in its permanent home as soon as possible.  At this stage, a location change for the 2026-2027 school year is anticipated, and we will share details as they become available. Any changes to operations or the school location will be communicated promptly, with the well-being of our students and faculty as our top priority.

Kelly Hand, Vice-chair  of the Board stated in the a recent Pique Newsmagazine article – “This transition marks an exciting and transformative new chapter in our school’s journey,” Hand said. “From our original location at Alta Lake to Spruce Grove, and now beyond, each move has reflected our growth and progress and we look forward to the opportunities this next chapter will bring. For nearly 25 years, Whistler Waldorf School has been a valued part of the Whistler community and has called Spruce Grove home since 2002. We are deeply grateful to the RMOW, our mayor and council, past and present—and the broader Whistler community for making this possible, and we sincerely appreciate the RMOW’s continued support. We are also deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our dedicated faculty, staff, trustees, families, and community members throughout our 20-plus years at the Spruce Grove campus.”
