Early Years Centre summer update

We are happy to announce that Early Years Centre has a new name! Beginning in July as the lupins come out in the alpine, EYC will change its name to Wildflowers. This change reflects our Waldorf approach to early childhood education, where childhood is like a wild space that we protect and revere. By nurturing opportunities to play, explore and make connections with other children and caring adults, we can witness the unique nature of each child as they unfold and bloom.

As the season changes, we will be saying goodbye to some familiar faces. Ms. Lindsey will return to the Okanagan with her family at the end of June. We have been so grateful for her care, her warmth and good humour, and wonderful stories.

We are excited to welcome Melanie McLaren to Wildflowers, starting in July. Ms. Melanie has been a Whistler local and Early Childhood Educator for many years, and loves spending time outdoors with the children in play and exploration, bearing witness to their amazing capabilities. In the winter, you can also find her on the mountain snowboarding.

Beginning in August, Toni Swickis will join our team, working alongside Ms. Heather, then stepping into the role of lead teacher in September when Heather’s maternity leave begins. Ms. Toni has roots in Waldorf that go back to the 1990’s when she did her ECE practicums at four different Waldorf early childhood programs. Toni has been working as the Strong Start Coordinator in Squamish, and looks forward to bringing her leadership capacities to the Waldorf childcare environment.

Ms. Pri will continue to support the class throughout the summer, before she returns with her family to Europe at the end of August. Pri has shared so many gifts with our children, including her presence, her stories from around the world, and the thoughtful creations she has brought to our classrooms. Bon voyage, Pri!

I will remain in my role as Chair and Licensing Manager, and will continue to be on site with the children and teachers over the summer and into the school year. I am excited to welcome this talented new team to Wildflowers and look forward to supporting their journeys as Waldorf educators.
