A chance to meet our school community

Victoria Rodriguez – Grade 9 International Student, Mexico

You come from a huge city – Mexico City. What has been the biggest surprise for you coming to Whistler?I was actually surprised at how easy it was to adapt. Whistler is small and Pemberton, where I am living, even smaller, but the transition has been fine. I don’t miss the city at all!
And what has been the biggest surprise in regard to studying at WWS? I can’t believe how nice everyone has been. Both teachers and students alike have been so kind and welcoming.
What has the highlight been so far? Definitely the winter trip. It was such a unique experience for me to be out in nature like that and learning outdoor ed skills.
In Mexico, you studied in an International Baccalaureate school. What differences have you seen between IB and Waldorf?  There are some similarities and both offer a rigorous education.  I do feel, however, that Waldorf prepares students better for life whereas IB prepares you only for university. We have more varied experiences here and definitely more integration of the arts.
What is on your bucket list of things to see before you head home?
I’d like to spend more time at the lakes once they thaw. I haven’t seen the ice cave on Blackcomb yet, and also hope to catch Vallea Lumina.

COWS Fundraiser for Mental Health on Friday March 6th 2020 –  COWS Whistler will be donating all of our Ice Cream sales, staff tips & any other donations we receive to the Canadian Mental Health Awareness association of BC on this day in memory of a long time friend & manager that worked at our COWS location.

This is the second year we are running this event! Last year our store alone raised $4k and company wide we donated $43, 000 to this amazing cause.

Please come out and buy an ice cream in support of Mental Health.

Imagine 2120 – TELUS Winter Classic Gala Event on March 7 –

Imagine 2120 is part of the 27th annual two-day, the TELUS Winter Classic. The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support to organizations whose activities provide benefit to residents of the Sea to Sky Corridor in the areas of health, human services, education, recreation, arts & culture and the environment with a special emphasis placed on youth and

family programs.

Where & When: Roundhouse Lodge, Whistler Mountain from 6:45pm – Midnight. (Upload the Gondola between 6:45pm & 7:30pm. Dress warmly for the ride up, coat & boot check at the top.)

Tickets: $250 (incl. all taxes and fees) For guests 19+ Tickets can be purchased here.

100 Kids Whistler 2nd meeting at the Westin Resort set for March 12 – 

We are very excited to host the second meeting for the 100 Kids (who care) Whistler chapter.

Date: Thursday, March 12

Location: Westin Resort & Spa

Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm

Registration for 100 Kids Whistler is open to all kids ages 5 – 18 in our community. Please note that members under 12 years of age are required to be accompanied by an adult, there are no childcare services provided on site.

Brought to you by the 100 Women of Whistler local non profit group. If you are not familiar with the 100 Who Care Alliance, it is a simple, effective and efficient way to raise funds in your community for organizations that matter to you. Whistler currently has a 100 Women chapter (donating $100.00/member quarterly) and we have decided to take this opportunity to expose our children to this socially conscious movement (donating $10.00/member quarterly). 100 Kids Whistler wants to inspire the next generation by providing a forum to contribute to local charities. We want to share the true spirit and joy of giving, and let our littlest locals see for themselves what a difference their contributions can make. Come by March 12 to learn more!

Father Daughter Dance Tickets on Sale Now – This year’s Father Daughter Dance is Saturday, May 16th, 2020 at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.  The event is a major  fundraiser for the Whistler Children’s Centre.

Whistler Welcome Centre Survey now open –

The Whistler Welcome Centre is doing some research as part of our Parenting in Another Culture program. This year, we are focusing on parents of school age children, specifically high school – grades 8 to 12.  The survey is to help us identify and understand the challenges of parenting in another culture in Whistler so we can provide the services and information to better support immigrant and newcomer parents in our community.

Katherine Fawcett’s Swan Suit Book Launch on April 7 –

This is a free event at the Whistler Public Library. From Katherine: “I hope you’ll join me in Whistler to celebrate the launch of The Swan Suit (Douglas & McIntyre)”. The evening will feature a reading and discussion, plus music from Birdsong Jazz (with vocalist Robyn Forsyth, guitarist M.J. Mullin and bassist Tony Moser). Books will be available for purchase, courtesy of Armchair Books.

Long-term Accommodation Required:

The Vidal family of four is looking for long-term accommodation in Whistler starting August 2020, with their 2 girls hoping to attend WWS.

Originally from Spain, they are currently living in Quebec but hope to move to Whistler this summer. Please contact Javier Vidal if you know of any accommodation options that may work for his family.
