Community Corner – June 18

WWS Spotlight

A chance to meet our school community

Jen Dodds – WWS Director of Admissions

Do you have any reflections at this end of this year?
Without doubt it has been a big year for our small school. We experienced the passing of a collegue, a beloved teacher was involved in a very serious accident and, of course, Covid-19. There has certainly been a lot of complexity and uncertainty to manage. At the same time, the kindness, care, and incredible commitment that I see displayed by our leadership team, teachers and students is really inspiring; there are a lot of people in our community doing little bits of good where they are – and I feel grateful that my children and I are a part of it.

If you could choose 1 word/phase about the last few months what would it be & why?

I studied Chinese for years and the Chinese word for “crisis” comes to mind. This word is comprised of two Chinese characters signifying both “danger” and also “opportunity” or “change”.  This word aptly characterizes the present moment – we have all been challenged in many ways, but situation has encouraged reflection and prompted positive change as well.

What do your summer plans include?

Like most parents, the home/work life balance has been a struggle for me the past few months. I am looking forward to a quiet summer with decreased screen time. Camping in Tofino is all that is currently on the bucket list.

Thank you Jen for sharing your thoughts.

Housing Required – New Waldorf Faculty Member in need:

Professional family looking for long term housing in Whistler area

Hi! We are Rachel & Mark Colvin, an American/Canadian (and now Australian!) couple with three children ages 11, 10 and 9. We are moving to Whistler or Pemberton this August.

Mark is a chiropractor specializing in pediatrics, and I am a teacher and will be working at the Whistler Waldorf School. Our children attended a Waldorf School in Australia.

For the past 13 years we have lived and worked near Melbourne, Australia (and before that- England). We went on an around-the-world-journey with our three kids last year and decided then that we wanted to call Whistler home. We also want to be closer to our Canadian parents.

We are looking for a house to rent or buy, minimum 3 bedrooms, and one that is willing to let us have our beautiful old cat, Bella. I also love gardening, and would be happy to negotiate animal care (if you’re travelling and need to leave a furry friend behind), and basic maintenance/gardening. We’re open to anything, including sharing a rented house.

If you own or know of an available property please contact us on +61 480 197 095 (Australian number) or email us. We look forward to hearing from you!
