WWS Spotlight

A chance to meet our school community

Ellen Maclean – WWS High School Chair; Math & Science Teacher

A little more about Ms. Maclean:

Ms. Maclean has been working alongside Mr. Power and Ms. Blancher as part of our science and math team. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, a Bachelor of Education with a focus on Environmental science, Biology and Experiential education. Recently she completed her MA in Education and Waldorf High School Teacher training at Rudolf Steiner College, Sacramento.

Ms. Maclean will be on leave next year and has written the following letter to the WWS community:

Dear parents, students and Waldorf community,

It’s with much gratitude and appreciation that I take a year off from teaching and administration to begin the new adventure of being a mother. As a community of learners, we have overcome many challenges this year that were unforeseen and pushed our implementation of Waldorf education. In navigating these challenges with you, I’ve been carrying an additional responsibility of growing a baby. Now is the time that I must take a pause from Waldorf education and re-focus on growing and supporting the development of a little human.

Both Adam and I are immensely grateful for the support from the Waldorf community over the past months as we embark on our new role of becoming parents. We couldn’t ask for a better community of mentors, having exemplary parents all around us at the Whistler Waldorf School to be inspired and to learn from.

I look forward to connecting periodically over the next year and joining as a fellow Waldorf community member at school events. My last day of work will be June 12th, with an anticipated return for the 2021/22 school year.

Warmly,

Ellen

Thank you Ellen for all you’ve done this past school year!

Housing Required – New Waldorf Faculty Member in need:

Professional family looking for long term housing in Whistler area

Hi! We are Rachel & Mark Colvin, an American/Canadian (and now Australian!) couple with three children ages 11, 10 and 9. We are moving to Whistler or Pemberton this August.

Mark is a chiropractor specializing in pediatrics, and I am a teacher and will be working at the Whistler Waldorf School. Our children attended a Waldorf School in Australia.

For the past 13 years we have lived and worked near Melbourne, Australia (and before that- England). We went on an around-the-world-journey with our three kids last year and decided then that we wanted to call Whistler home. We also want to be closer to our Canadian parents.

We are looking for a house to rent or buy, minimum 3 bedrooms, and one that is willing to let us have our beautiful old cat, Bella. I also love gardening, and would be happy to negotiate animal care (if you’re travelling and need to leave a furry friend behind), and basic maintenance/gardening. We’re open to anything, including sharing a rented house.

If you own or know of an available property please contact us on +61 480 197 095 (Australian number) or email us. We look forward to hearing from you!
