A chance to meet our school community

Jaime, Robyn, Annie & Fraser – The Akehurst Family, WWS new family

The Akehurst family have thoroughly enjoyed our transition to Whistler Waldorf this year. Our family have been living here in Whistler for around 18 years, originally from Vancouver Island. Annie in year 5 and Fraser in Briar Rose (kindergarten), have been supported by new friends and wonderful teachers through their transition to Waldorf. If we were to summarize our fall, it would be calm and beautiful. Waldorf has taught our family to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

One memory this past October was on a walk behind Meadow Park, Annie took me off the trail as she was elaborately explaining her rich knowledge of fauna and flora. Before I knew it I was on my hands and knees looking at the Earth floor. To experience how she took her learning from the classroom out into the community was phenomenal. She was so excited to share her learning with me. Fraser shares his passion daily for candle lit meals and joyful songs. He retells stories he has heard around our dinner table. He is excited to tell us about his forest plays and making new friends at school.

We feel our children are in the best possible care we could dream for them. Waldorf has blended our Islander grass roots with our mountain culture lifestyle. Our friendships have expanded as we have enjoyed the parent events where we have met wonderful families. We feel that we share similar family values with these parents and we look forward to spending more time together.

The Winter Faire was spectacular. Our children created beautiful crafts that we will cherish for years to come. We loved how the food was simple yet warm and nourishing. We love the overall emphasis on health and well being both in the class and during festivities.
We are grateful to say we are part of the Waldorf community. After participating in the most recent Summit Centre meeting we are excited for the future and what these opportunities bring to both our children and our community.

Father Daughter Dance Tickets on Sale Sunday March 1 – This year’s Father Daughter Dance is Saturday, May 16th, 2020 at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.  The event is a major  fundraiser for the Whistler Children’s Centre and usually sells out every year.

The ticket link will be either emailed to you this Sunday morning or you can follow the Facebook event where it will also be posted.

COWS Fundraiser for Mental Health on Friday March 6th 2020 –  COWS Whistler will be donating all of our Ice Cream sales, staff tips & any other donations we receive to the Canadian Mental Health Awareness association of BC on this day in memory of a long time friend & manager that worked at our COWS location.

This is the second year we are running this event! Last year our store alone raised $4k and company wide we donated $43, 000 to this amazing cause.

Please come out and buy an ice cream in support of Mental Health.

Imagine 2120 – TELUS Winter Classic Gala Event on March 7 –

Imagine 2120 is part of the 27th annual two-day, the TELUS Winter Classic. The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support to organizations whose activities provide benefit to residents of the Sea to Sky Corridor in the areas of health, human services, education, recreation, arts & culture and the environment with a special emphasis placed on youth and

family programs.

Where & When: Roundhouse Lodge, Whistler Mountain from 6:45pm – Midnight. (Upload the Gondola between 6:45pm & 7:30pm. Dress warmly for the ride up, coat & boot check at the top.)

Tickets: $250 (incl. all taxes and fees) For guests 19+ Tickets can be purchased here.

Katherine Fawcett’s Swan Suit Book Launch on April 7 –

This is a free event at the Whistler Public Library. From Katherine: “I hope you’ll join me in Whistler to celebrate the launch of The Swan Suit (Douglas & McIntyre)”. The evening will feature a reading and discussion, plus music from Birdsong Jazz (with vocalist Robyn Forsyth, guitarist M.J. Mullin and bassist Tony Moser). Books will be available for purchase, courtesy of Armchair Books.

Long-term Accommodation Required:

The Vidal family of four is looking for long-term accommodation in Whistler starting August 2020, with their 2 girls hoping to attend WWS.

Originally from Spain, they are currently living in Quebec but hope to move to Whistler this summer. Please contact Javier Vidal if you know of any accommodation options that may work for his family.
