Speaker Series: Shifting Perspectives @ Maury Young Arts Centre

Community Speaker Series hosted by Whistler Waldorf School
Where: Maury Young Arts Centre
When:  5:30pm. Doors Open. 6pm Start.

We are excited to announce Shifting Perspectives: Stories of Mental Health, Adversity, and Resilience, a three-part community-wide youth mental health speaker series hosted by WWS, made possible with generous support from the Whistler Health Care Foundation.

In Waldorf education, biography plays a powerful role, offering students insight into the lives of others. The lives of those who have faced adversity and emerged stronger serve as profound reminders that challenges can foster growth and resilience. Through these narratives, students learn that hardship can be a powerful catalyst for personal transformation.

Session #1: Shifting Perspectiveswill begin with Guy Felicella, who will share his remarkable journey from the depths of drug addiction, homelessness, gang involvement, and multiple life-threatening overdoses to a life of profound transformation and recovery. His story offers powerful lessons about harm reduction, drug policies, and the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction. Please note that the presentation contains themes of drug use and criminal activity. We recommend it for students in grades 7 and above.

EY Parent Education Night @ Spring Creek EYC

Early Years Parent Education Night
Where: Early Years Centre in Spring Creek
When:  7pm-8:30pm

Every year we put on a series of education nights for Early Years parents to help with guiding principles of Waldorf education as well as helpful tips and understanding for child development. Come join other parents to learn more and look for specific details for each event in the class biweekly newsletters.

First Discussion: November 19th – Child Development Birth to Seven and Beyond – Waldorf Education recognizes three key stages of child development, each building a capacity needed for the next. This parenting enrichment talk will explore how our children’s development drives them to learn and grow, how we see it reflected in their behavior and capacities, and how we can support each unfolding stage.

Coffee conversations for WWS members
Dec 3 @ 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM

#WWScommunity

Meet the WWS faculty and staff, and discover what makes WWS a truly unique learning environment. The session will feature a brief presentation followed by time for open conversation and questions.

October 1 – Join Grade School Principal Eleanor West to learn more about howa strong Code of Conduct is essential for fostering healthy student behaviour, interactions, and a positive learning atmosphere. While WWS has always upheld these standards, we have recently updated our Code of Conduct to ensure consistency in expectations and approaches across all grades.

November 5 –  Join us to explore the financial aspects of our school operations. Independent schools in BC operate under a unique funding model, and we’ll discuss our sources of revenue, key expenses, and the crucial role that fundraising plays in sustaining our operations. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of this important aspect of WWS.

December 3 –  Join Ali Blancher for a session on the Path to Graduation and the various supports available to our high school students as they prepare for life beyond WWS. Ali will cover key topics such as credit requirements, course planning, and post-secondary research and preparation. She’ll also highlight where our alumni have continued their journeys after graduation.
