We are excited to announce Shifting Perspectives: Stories of Mental Health, Adversity, and Resilience, a three-part community-wide youth mental health speaker series hosted by WWS, made possible with generous support from the Whistler Health Care Foundation. In Waldorf education, biography plays a powerful role, offering students insight into the lives of others. The lives of those who have faced adversity and emerged stronger serve as profound reminders that challenges can foster growth and resilience. Through these narratives, students learn that hardship can be a powerful catalyst for personal transformation. The event series if free to the community, but each event is ticketed to help track capacity for the evening. See our blog for more details about each event and ticket links to RSVP.
Session #1: At Maury Young Arts Centre – Shifting Perspectives will begin with Overcoming on November 7… Guy Felicella’s presentation will share his remarkable journey from the depths of drug addiction, homelessness, gang involvement, and multiple life-threatening overdoses to a life of profound transformation and recovery. His story offers powerful lessons about harm reduction, drug policies, and the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction. Please note that the presentation contains themes of drug use and criminal activity. We recommend it for students in grades 7 and above.
Session #2 (Part 1): At Squamish Lillooet Cultural Centre – Shifting Perspectives continues with the Shut Up & Say Something Film Screening on January 27 … Shane Koyczan’s documentary movie Shut Up And Say Something follows acclaimed international spoken word artist Shane Koyczan on an emotional road trip to reconnect with the father he never knew. Seen and heard by millions worldwide, Shane’s poignant and powerful poems tackle everything from bullying to body image. Don’t miss the chance to experience this powerful and thought-provoking film. We recommend it for students in grades 7 and above.
